I was strolling the streets of Rome looking for something more distinct and traditional than the shops of mainstream brands, when I found myself in front of the window of shoe makers Dal Co’ on Via Vittoria.

I walked in the shop and there I was… in retro shoe heaven! The shoes were inspired from the 40s, 50s and 60s era and the vintage display was trully amazing. Sizes were not really available (each style was only available in one shoe size) and hopping to find a shoe that would fit I started trying one shoe after the other… at a moment of desperation I kind of felt like Cinderella’s evil sister.

Twenty minutes and fifteen shoe trials later… I finally found a perfect fit in the perfect shoe style! The Italian lady told me this shoe was called the Cha Cha Cha!

I was so excited to find these amazing one of a kind shoes that if I knew the Cha Cha Cha… I would have danced it for her!

Dal Co’ was founded by Alberto Dal Co’ (1902 -1963) with clients some of the most celebrated personalities; Diana Vreeland, Audrey Hepburn, Linda Christian, Princess Soraya, Ava Gardner, Gina Lollobrigida. Some of Dal Co’s renowned designs are displayed at the Costume Institute of Metropolital Museum of Art in New York. The tradition of exclusive custom made shoes is now carried over by Alberto Dal Co’s daughter Nives and grand-daughter Silvia.

So, when in Rome be sure to visit the exclusive bottega Dal Co’

It is truly one of Rome’s distinguished shops on custom made shoes.
